Beijing eases investment restrictions | FT

China on Monday opened a new avenue for overseas investors to buy into Chinese enterprises, with the formal revocation of a 1995 regulation that banned the purchase of state-owned shares in locally listed companies.

The new regulations have the imprimatur of the State Council, China's cabinet, and provide a detailed road map for foreign investors to win approval for their investments.

The new rules have the potential to set off a wave of private equity investment, as they allow foreigners to resell the shares after 12 months and repatriate capital. more
