500 firms produce four-fifths of GDP | SCMP

The operating revenue of the mainland's top 500 companies accounted for almost four-fifths of its gross domestic product last year, Xinhua reported.

The top 500 companies had combined operating revenue of 14.14 trillion yuan last year, representing 77.6 per cent of China's GDP, Xinhua quoted a report by China Enterprise Confederation and the China Enterprise Directors Association as saying.

Of the top 500 companies, 349 were state-owned or state-controlled......

.....In 2001, the operating revenue of the top 500 equalled 55.7 per cent of GDP; in 2004 the figure was 73.5 per cent.....
