Citigroup axes Salomon name | FT

Gone, too...........

The Salomon name, a fixture of Wall Street investment banking for more than 90 years, has run out of stays of execution.

Today is the final day Citigroup's global corporate and investment bank will use the Salomon name. Citigroup chief executive Sandy Weill announced in May 2001 that the name would be phased out, but the task kept being deferred. As of Monday, it will be completed.

......The names Schroder Salomon Smith Barney and Salomon Smith Barney will no longer be used and the Nikko Salomon Smith Barney joint venture in Japan will be renamed Nikko Citigroup.......

What did I say then?
